General Do's and Don'ts

Do
► Make use of your Broadplace.
► Encourage other people to use the Broadplace.
► Keep food and drink away from the laptops.
► Put equipment away in secure storage cabinets when you have finished with it.
► Report any problems you have to Michelle or one of the volunteers.
► Ask if you need help.
► Log yourself on and log off before switching off a laptop.
► Treat the equipment as if it were your own.
► Save your work to a CD-ROM or memory stick.
► Use web based email.

Don't
► Leave equipment unattended.
► Leave sensitive personal information on the laptops.
► Change the laptop settings.
► Access pornographic, racist or other unacceptable material.

As with any public access facility, we must have rules on acceptable use to enable everyone to get the best out of Broadplace. By registering to use Broadplace you are accepting the conditions for use set out below:

► Never leave a laptop unattended
► The Aston on Clun Broadplace laptops have a range of software suitable for most uses. All requests for software additions or changes should be made to Aston Broadplace at astonbroadplace@tiscali.co.uk or speak to Michelle Harding at The Kangaroo Inn
► Software is installed to prevent access to web pages that contain obscene, indecent, pornographic, paedophilic, abusive, racist or an extreme political nature content
► You are responsible for any activity on the laptop while you are using it. You must not attempt to access the operating system, settings, programs or management data unless you know they are intended for your use
► You must not use the Broadplace facilities for personal financial gain, gambling, political purposes or advertising
► The use of public chat rooms is not allowed
► You must not download/upload inappropriate material
► You must not hold or process information about individuals except in accordance with the provision of the Data Protection Act of 1998. Users must respect the copyright and source of text and images, whether typed, downloaded or scanned
► E-mail attachments may contain inappropriate material, malicious programs or possibly a virus. You should be very careful when opening attachments especially from unknown senders. Do not run or install programs or .exe files received by email or from a CD or USB memory stick
► If you receive e-mails warning of security breaches and viruses, please alert Michelle/volunteer helpers. Do not forward them to others; many are hoaxes or false alarms.
► If you transmit personal or private information, including credit card or bank details, addresses etc. over the Internet, Aston Broadplace takes no responsibility for any consequences
► You should be aware that Aston Broadplace team monitors the activity on each computer. If it is found that the computer has been used inappropriately, you will be warned. Failure to heed a warning will lead to computer access being denied in the future.
► Please keep food and drink away from all equipment
► Use of laptops ends at 10.30pm
► Michelle reserves the right not to loan laptops at times when the pub is very busy eg quiz nights or Bank Holidays
► Remember that you are using the Internet in a public place so always log out of your email and any financial websites as soon as you have finished: never leave a logged in laptop unattended
► Use web-based email only - no personal files should be saved to the hard drive
► The Kangaroo Inn has legal responsibilities: please help by abiding by the rules
► Please respect other customers of The Kangaroo: your use of the computers must not offend or disturb others
